Job Title: Head of Department (HOD) – Spanish
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced, dynamic, and visionary Head of Department (HOD) – Spanish to lead and manage the Spanish Department at our prestigious international school. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring excellence in teaching and learning, promoting Spanish language and culture, and aligning the curriculum with international standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management:
Lead the Spanish department, providing clear direction, guidance, and support to all team members.
Develop and implement innovative teaching strategies to achieve academic excellence.
Conduct regular department meetings to discuss goals, progress, and challenges.
Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.
Curriculum Development and Implementation:
Design and oversee the Spanish language curriculum in alignment with international education standards (e.g., IB, IGCSE, or equivalent).
Regularly review and update teaching resources and methods to ensure relevance and effectiveness.
Ensure the integration of Spanish culture and heritage into the curriculum.
Teaching and Learning:
Teach Spanish language classes as required.
Mentor and support teachers within the department to enhance teaching quality.
Oversee the development and administration of assessments, ensuring fairness and accuracy.
Student Development:
Promote student interest in Spanish through clubs, events, and cultural activities.
Monitor student progress and implement strategies for improvement.
Organize language immersion programs, exchange programs, or international collaborations.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Manage the department’s budget, resources, and staffing needs.
Coordinate with other departments and school leadership to achieve institutional goals.
Ensure compliance with school policies, accreditation requirements, and educational regulations.
Qualifications and Experience:
Master’s degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in Spanish at the secondary or high school level, preferably in an international curriculum (IB, IGCSE, etc.).
Prior leadership or managerial experience is highly desirable.
Proficiency in Spanish and English, with excellent communication skills.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Skills:
Familiarity with modern teaching technologies and methodologies.
Experience organizing extracurricular activities related to language and culture.
Knowledge of additional languages is a plus
