About the Sustainable Energy Lab The Sustainable Energy Lab (SEL) at IIHS focusses on integration of design approaches, technologies and operation techniques towards net-zero-energy performance of buildings and communities. We investigate and implement integrated low energy approaches and we combine passive design approaches with IoT-based monitoring of performance and control of systems.

We also co-conduct the Solar Decathlon India, a competition among graduate and undergraduate students to empower the next generation to combat Climate Change in the buildings sector. We provide the competing teams with online learning modules, expert webinars, performance simulation software, and mentoring. The teams develop net-zero-energy-water and climate resilient solutions for real projects.

Job Description IIHS is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic person to join their SEL team. We want people who have the ability to collaborate and eagerness to learn. The incumbent will work in two areas: • Research and Implementation: This includes, but is not limited to, research, energy auditing, writing RFPs, energy modelling, simulations, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), measurement and verification (M&V), and data analysis. It offers the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge net-zero energy campus of IIHS that aims to advance sustainable building practices and foster innovations in the field of comfort, sustainable energy, and climate-resilient infrastructure and operations. Collaborations with the Campus Development Team, IoT Lab, Urban Informatics Lab, Geospatial Lab provide opportunities for learning and growth that includes AI approaches and on-ground implementation. • Solar Decathlon India (SDI): SDI is the world’s largest net-zero building challenge. This role involves coordinating the jurying and review process, managing the learning content and resources offered to participants, coordinating with the faculty, managing events, and supporting the organizing team of SDI. The work offers opportunities to develop connections with industry experts, researchers, and faculty from over 300 organisations and institutions.

Additionally, you may be expected to: • Participate and support in other activities of the SEL at IIHS as necessary; and perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned; • Provide support to other IIHS activities including academics, research, training, practice, operations and others; • Participate in all activities of Institution-Building at IIHS; carry out tasks as assigned by IIHS; and travel on IIHS work within or outside the country as and when needed.

Structure and Reporting The technical associate will report to the Senior Advisor – SEL and will be required to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of internal teams and external individuals/organisations, and students.

Person Specification The ideal candidate should have: • A Master’s degree in Sustainable Architecture, Engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical), Building Science, or Energy Performance; • 1-5 years of work experience; • A strong foundation in building science, energy, and data analysis; • A strong command of energy and thermal simulation of buildings; • Excellent team and project coordination skills; • Good documentation skills for graphics, design and writing; • Good communication skills to work with diverse teams within IIHS and outside IIHS; • These Software skills: • MS Office Word, Excel, Powerpoint (required); • Design Builder/ Energy Plus/ Open Studio/ eQuest/ Grasshopper (required); • Photoshop (required); • SketchUp / Rhino 3D / 3DS MAX (desirable); • Illustrator, Premier Pro (desirable); • A basic knowledge of python, R or other programming language will be considered a plus.
