Job Description: Early Years Program Facilitator
Written Curriculum
- Creates and plans trans-disciplinary units of inquiry from which lessons are taught and supports this with written planning;
- Develops and teaches a course of study according to the school’s grade-level scope and sequence;
- Tailors lessons for 3 and 4 y.o. children within the same classroom, bearing in mind different learning styles and prior experiences:
- Incorporates the Essential Elements of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) into inquiry-based, constructivist learning experiences within the classroom;
- Collaborates with other teachers in planning on a regular basis.
Taught Curriculum
- Examines, re-examines and reflects upon teaching practices in order to provide the best possible opportunities to explore the trans-disciplinary units of inquiry across the curriculum and beyond;
- Provides a stimulating learning atmosphere within the classroom;
- Models for students the character attributes of the IB Learner Profile;
- Uses excellent written and oral English skills when communicating;
- Observes the classroom expectations handbook, involving care and within the maintenance of the classroom.
Assessed curriculum
- Monitors, assists, and assesses student results by preparing assessments according to IB assessment strategies and tools;
- Observes the Essential Agreements on assessment created by teachers and set within the Assessment, Recording and Reporting Handbook;
- Maintains student portfolios and assessment records, according to assessment guidelines and under the time constraints required;
Professional duties
- Maintains order in the classroom and provides a safe, secure and healthy educational environment by establishing, following and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with all legal regulations;
- Informs parents by maintaining records of academic performance, attendance and social acclimation, reporting on all elements of student development at parent-teacher meetings, both regularly scheduled and as needed;
- Maintains strict confidentiality in regard to students and their records;
- Provides student support services by monitoring play areas, restrooms and dining hall facilities, maintaining weekly after-school club(s) and leading students on field trips;
- Attends scheduled staff/committee meetings;
Experience
- Experience as IB PYP EY Class Teacher
- Experience of working with EY age group
Skills
- Ability to provide dynamic, motivational, learner-centered, interdisciplinary classroom activities
- Strong ICT skills
- Ability to differentiate lessons to a variety of learning styles and ability levels
- Collaborative planning attitude
- Ability to maintain an appropriate standard of discipline in the classroom
- Ability to show initiative and contribute new ideas
Knowledge
- Knowledge of a variety of pedagogical approaches, and ability to apply each one as and when required
- Induction to phonics
