All students must pass a teaching eligibility test called the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET), which is given by central and state education boards, in order to work in any of the government teaching jobs. In addition, the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) has made it mandatory to have a B.Ed. to work as a government teacher in classes I through VIII. The only way a candidate can join one of our three teaching levels, PRT, TGT, or PGT, is if they pass the aforementioned eligibility examinations before, during, or after graduation or post-graduation.

What does Primary Teacher (PRT) mean?

PRT is an acronym for primary teacher. A primary teacher, often known as an elementary teacher, instructs pupils in classes one through five at the primary level. A candidate needs to have a Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) to work as a primary teacher. There are two ways to complete this 2-year diploma program: full-time classroom instruction or online study. This diploma typically takes four semesters to complete and prepares a candidate for employment as a primary school teacher.

A Diploma in Elementary Education is offered by numerous public and private institutions around the nation. An applicant must have passed the 10+2 or an equivalent exam with at least 50% of the possible points in order to be admitted to the D.El.Ed program.

Who Are Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT)?

TGT Trained Graduate Teacher in its full form. TGTs may instruct in grades 6 through 10. One must successfully complete the B. Ed, a two-year professional program that is also TET accredited, in order to become a Trained Graduate Teacher. TGTs are in charge of giving pupils a deeper knowledge of the material and preparing them for further education. They instruct students in a variety of specialized disciplines, including math, science, social studies, and languages.

A Bachelor's degree in education or a closely related discipline is needed for TGTs in addition to a Bachelor's degree in education. They have received training in class planning, subject matter delivery, performance evaluation, and giving constructive criticism to pupils. TGTs may also be in charge of extracurricular tasks like supervising student clubs or coaching sports teams.

Who Are Post Graduate Teachers (PGT)?

PGT or post-graduate teacher, is the full form. The postgraduate instructor instructs classes up to the 12th-grade level. A TGT completes their B. Ed after graduating, whereas a PGT must have a postgraduate degree prior to or following applying for a B. Ed study in order to qualify as a PGT. Therefore, a graduate candidate with the same B. Ed degree is referred to as a TGT and a postgraduate candidate as a PGT.

Before being admitted to the B. Ed program, a candidate for the position of PGT must hold one of the following credentials from any accredited university or institution-

1. Any stream of an M. Tech.
2. any stream of engineering degree plus a Diploma of Advanced Study
3. Master of Arts and Master of Science
4. MBA in commerce
5. Computer Application Master's
6. A different Master's degree

A candidate can submit an application for any of the annual teaching eligibility exams after completing the requirements to become a PRT, TGT, or PGT. These tests serve as the foundation for hiring a candidate to teach at the primary and upper primary levels. Several authorized organizations that administer hiring tests for academic staff include-
